If the Son Therefore Shall Set You Free

In John Chapter 8 we read of the woman caught in adultery. Imagine this woman before her accusers just waiting on the sentence, which was already laid down in law, to be passed and to be stoned to death. She, we can only images was certain she would be killed and those who accused her were certain they were going to kill her. She was on a one way street to death and damnation and like her accusers she may have felt that her end was justified because of her actions. After all the law said so.

Her encounter with Jesus changed that. As the righteous judge Jesus leveled the playing field and saved her life. He showed her love, removed her condemnation and set her on a path to sin more. He continued His discourse with those Jews which believed on Him and told them that it is in knowing the truth that they would be made free from the slavery of sin.  Jesus had the power to save them.

Like the woman caught in adultery and the others in His audience in the chapter, we need to recognize sin as slavery which leads to death. We must recognize that we need an encounter with Jesus and His words to be fully free. We need after that encounter to go our way and strive to sin no more. We need to continue in His words and be his disciples. We need to recognize the power of Jesus to emancipate us form the system of sin.

We need to be emancipated and full freedom only comes when we are freed by Jesus Christ. Let us make a choice to take hold of that opportunity for emancipation and help other to do so.
